Public drinking fountains

I was reasonable impressed with all the renovation/restoration of Big Spring Park until today, when I noticed that the public drinking fountains had been removed? Why?? Drinking fountains aren't a luxury - they are essential for public safety, especially as the temperature climbs during spring and summer. And while the city is at it they should also provide public drinking fountains every mile or so along all the greenways ...more »

We need a new local newspaper.

If you want to find out what is going on in Huntsville you will find very little in our local Huntsville, oops, Alabama newspaper. We need a newspaper that tells the people of our area about many of the Big Picture ideas as well as hundreds of events that happen every month in our fantastic part of our planet. The local TV stations do a pretty good job of doing this in the morning but not our Newspaper. The Athens newspaper ...more »

Police Bicycle Patrols

Now here is an idea that will float like a lead balloon with city leaders, and police officers, Huntsville needs to put a bunch of our finest, police officers on bicycle patrols. If we seriously want to encourage safe bicycle ridership then having police on bikes accomplishes many goals. One, police officers become more empathetic with the cyclists and experience what cyclist face on many of our roads. Two, the police ...more »

Promoting kids

"Grownup" events for young people help promote and encourage development of young talent, ambition, and confidence. An art fair showcasing art from the under-18 population would give kids their own venue to bring attention to future stars. Panoply is awesome, but why not dedicate one of the days to youth-only displays of arts? Or a section of the park? Better yet a separate weekend? Too many kids are given the idea ...more »

City(cities?) & Redstone Work together to make access easier

There are several ideas on here about roads around the Arsenal and work that needs to be done to them. What I'd like to submit is the actual access on and off the base and how it is needs to be SIGNIFICANTLY improved at all of the major gates. In the 12 years I have been here and worked on the Arsenal, it has actually been worsened at Gate 1, Gate 9, and at least the roads to Gate 7. Now the city is undertaking a project ...more »

Developers and/or property owners to maintain their roads/lots

For an example of the problem, see this: https://nextdoor.com/news_feed/?post=106207564&comment=244542133&ct=GyLSib3UR5iU12K9H2ItMZgYEJjubfkLQVWUNoXn3ud7mms3X-mlS3KbayuhBd7o&ec=CUuITXfgC4y3JTZ2xRbYqsCEDVfj1pLaDEEEO8rW-uw%3D&lc=135 This is repeated in the Jones Valley development where the ring road has sunk extremely low in places, and the cut through road from 4 Mile Post to Bailey Cove road almost requires a 4x4. ...more »

Big sports access for Huntsville

My post here is directed to John Stallworth. Mr. Stallworth, could you possibly in the near future maybe bring the Steelers here to Huntsville for a pre-season game played at Lewis Crews Stadium? This would give us here in Huntsville a chance to to see a major sports franchise in action. Please give this some thought Mr Stallworth. Thank you Sir.

traffic at 255, 565, madison pike

Guys, Its time. the city has got to get it together and tackle this issue before the new businesses start to come onto the arsenal. The interchanges between these roads (565, 255, Madison pike) with the merge by "zippering" into traffic with a 270 degree on/off ramp is the biggest hold back on traffic. create actual ramps(overpass) to get onto/off of these roads to keep traffic moving. the only way to start this though ...more »

Greenway Water Fountains

I am a frequent user of the greenways in the Huntsville area. I would like to promote the idea of placing water fountains directly on the greenways. Water fountains could be placed at some regular interval, perhaps every mile. I realize that some of the parks adjacent to the greenways have water, but it would be nice to have direct access to water.

New Pedestrian Bridge.

I'd like to promote the pedestrian bridge crossing Aldridge Creek, connecting Chatterson Road and Esslinger Road. Thus the Aldridge Creek Trail will serve both sides of the old Grissom HS and neighborhood, which will be a new library soon. This link will show you the exact location. Public Recycle Containers

We need those large recycle containers in every public space. One for plastic, one for paper/cardboard, one for aluminum cans. Big Spring Park, shopping centers, all public parks, anywhere and everywhere there are people coming and going with food. We have a beautiful area. Let's keep it and our waters clean. Let's recycle all we can!

Aldridge Creek Greenway South of Weatherly

Aldridge Creek Greenway is currently segmented. It terminates about 1/2 mile south of Weatherly Rd, but it picks back up north of Weatherly Rd and continues until it hits the golf course. Is there a plan to connect these two segments? I realize that the sidewalks on Bailey Cove and Weatherly can be used, but almost nobody does this. There are many businesses and alot of traffic in that area, making sidewalk travel undesirable ...more »

Huntsville Area EBay of Food Scraps Network/Marketplace

Huntsville area businesses and families waste a lot of food while many others either go hungry or near hungry due to financial insecurity. Huntsville needs an Ebay like marketplace that allows businesses and families to sell food that is about to be thrown out to those who need it at rock bottom prices. Services like GrubHub and GrubSouth, along with automated drones can help transport the food from those who need it ...more »

Time for a major entertainment recreational development!

I concure whole heartily with the previous post. Huntsville and North Alabama is way overdue for a big themed development. I previously posted this a few weeks ago. I believe many people here in this area hunger for this, however only a few of us willing to speak up for it! If we can bring in automotive assembly lines here, surely we should be able to bing in a blaster coaster, drop tower, sky swing etc. We used to say ...more »
