Bicycle Lanes

Bicycle lanes are proven to improve safety, increase the number and demographics of cyclists, boost the economy along their routes, improve traffic flow, and have minimal maintenance costs. Currently we have little signs creating 'bike' lanes. This needs to be expanded.

Bicycle lanes are proven to boost the economy along the routes and small businesses in general.

The cost of creating bicycle lanes is in the thousands per mile versus roads which can be millions-billions per mile.

Two examples of how bicycle lanes boost the economy:

  2. Recreational opportunities, especially bicycle related, bring young professional graduates to any community. Providing bike lanes and greenways make neighborhoods more attractive to any new residents. Plus they will retain the current population. Young families relish any greenways and bike paths to facilitate family outings.

  4. The biking and walking lanes fit perfectly with the Healthy Huntsville theme. Considering that good health is an everyday way of life, having safe, dedicated bicycle and pedestrian lanes will encourage all of us to increase healthy physical activity. For young professionals, old professionals, and for young families with children. I would love to have this kind of access all around town and a safe place to park my bike when I arrive. Shopping and buying locally would be way more fun and healthier than driving everywhere now!

  5. I've lived in California for 2 years everywhere you go this is a very popular recurring theme. I never saw any problems with this and I was in a major metropolitan area. If anything it only encourages people to use there bikes more as mentioned above it's good for an alternative form of transport and getting the people up and moving. Plus as the city grows it cuts down on the number of cars on the road and helps with commuting as density increases.

  6. This is a nice story about how Memphis added a bike lane and revitalized a down and out neighborhood. Bike lanes are perfect for art districts. Good story.
