Bike trail brochure

I am fairly new to the community and I have no idea where some of the bike trails are located. My family loves to bike together and adding new trails to our adventure would be great. So I propose that a easy to read bike trail brochure be available to the public, listing existing trails and those to be established. Advertisements could help pay for the printing of such brochures. Also road signs indicating location of bike trails would be helpful. Lets promote our bike trails for all!

  1. Other than some mountain bike trails in the parks, our bike trails are our greenways. There's an overall map here: http://www.hsvcity.com/gis/greenways_new/pdfs/GreenwaysOverall.pdf

    And details here: http://www.hsvcity.com/gis/greenways_new/Greenways_GIS.htm

Our greenways have road signage, although I'd not sure if it's comprehensive.

Madison City info is here: http://www.madisongreenways.org/About/

Outside the city, for a nice long ride, check out the Elkmont Rails-To-Trails (Richard Martin Trail). It's off road but not rough and a nice outing.

Womderful information from ncastle. I still think a brochure with pictures and information would be helpful and might drum up some tourist monies especially brochures at welcome centers, motels, etc. It would be nice to know if bathrooms are available or any other amenties located at the bike trails. Brochures could include Madison and Athens trails. We live in a great community but I think speeding up the development of trails would be beneficial to the health and well being of all.

  3. Brochures would certainly indicate that Huntsville is in a bike trail state of mind. The publicity might even get the wheels turning about where new bike trails can be developed. It would be nice for the maps to indicate with color or symbols which parts of trails share the road with cars and which ones are bikes/footpaths only. With my toddler I am only interested in off road trails.

  4. Wouldn't it be great if Huntsville were mentioned in this article about top biking cities? http://www.bicycling.com/news/advocacy/america-s-top-50-bike-friendly-cities#snapback

I see our neighbor, Chattanooga got an honorable mention for the new bike trails.

I was at the Rocket and Space Center yesterday and saw a young couple with two bikes on their car. I asked if they enjoyed riding on any of our bike trails. They didn't know we had any bike trails and if they did they would add a couple of extra days in the area. They told me the chamber of commerce should print a bike trail brochure. HELLO!
