Continue Aldridge Creek Greenway expansion north

Aldridge Creek Greenway expansion northward should continue to be a priority. Linking the southern neighborhoods to the Target shopping area will be loved by all riders in SE Huntsville.

  1. Thanks for your comment regarding extending the greenway. Plans have been completed to extend the greenway northward to the golf course. We bid the entire segment with the portion we just completed from Mountain Gap to Bailey Cove, but did not have enough money to complete the whole project. We intend to complete as soon as possible.

    1. Thank you so much for that walkway, it has really made use of an otherwise unusable space. Too bad we couldn't tunnel under the golf course and connect to the other side..

I too enjoy the newest segment of the Creek trail. I heard that plans to go all the way to the golf course were in the works. That's good news. But I'm saddened that the golf course is preventing the trail to be unbroken all the way to the movie theater and shopping center. Maybe someday that can happen too.

The next link will take you to Avila Beach California. In that town, they arranged for their trail to bisect their golf course. https://maps.google.com/maps?q=Avila+Beach,+San+Luis+Obispo,+California&hl=en&ll=35.182964,-120.73288&spn=0.01154,0.013797&sll=45.710495,-84.842606&sspn=0.317412,0.441513&t=h&gl=us&geocode=FevNGAId98bN-A&hnear=Avila+Beach,+San+Luis+Obispo,+California&z=16&lci=bike It could happen here too.

Woo Hooo. I just read in the Huntsville Times, this morning, that a new link in the Aldridge Creak Trail was approved by the City Council last night. The new trail will take us north, right to the edge of the Golf Course. That's great news about the new link, but come-on, we need to be able to ride through. One step at a time though. Kudos to the City Council for the new link.

I'm curious, will the northern end of the trail at Esslinger Road include a pedestrian bridge, so both sides of the neighborhood can enter the trail? I hope so. We love to eat lunch at the Willowbrook Square Shopping Center, and that would only be possible if there is a pedestrian bridge.
