Forget the Big Spring Jam! Concerts in the park!

Big Spring Jam has failed to be a success for years. The last time I remember going and actually enjoying it was 10 years ago! Instead of trying to do another jam or replace it Huntsville should get some big name bands to play the concerts in the park! There could be food and other vendors. Have a different band play in the park every Saturday in May! I know this sounds like panoply, but this could be a lot better than trying the weekend long big spring jam that always fails!

  1. A big act in the park once a week would cost too much.

    1. Sure, if you are going after Bieber or Lady Gaga. but the Manchester Orchestras, Band of Horses, and Passion Pits of the world would come play and get a good crowd.

  2. Big Spring Jam has lost its luster because they never get bands anyone wants to hear anymore. Nashville does a really good version of getting a good band to play in the park every week, and I like this idea, but I don't think BSJ needs to be scrapped. Just get in touch better with what people want to hear.

  3. I don' t think both can exist and do well in Huntsville. CATP would really benefit from bigger named bands like Drive-by Truckers or the bands listed in the previous post, but it will take money, sponsors, and probably a different venue. BSJ has lost itself. Bigger music fests like Bonnaroo and Hang Out pull big name bands and leave BSJ looking like a second tier joke.

  4. Maybe incorporate something to go along with the BSJ such as a BBQ competition? I agree the BSJ does not need to be scrapped but they need to get in better touch with what people want to hear

  5. People want REGULAR events to connect with in Huntsville. Connection to the community needs to be a daily habit rather than a yearly event

  6. It would be nice to get some acts for the young adult crowd here and not acts for seniors only

  7. There would have to be a cover charge to get any major acts but I think this is a great idea.

  8. Venue is another contributing factor for Big Spring Jam's decline. Personally, I don't want to drag my kids to downtown to hear second rate bands because it's a major hassle. Now, I might be more inclined, if it wasn't downtown. Same goes for Panoply, really.

Also, take a different approach. Move it and add some other attractions. Maybe carnival rides or something.
