  Games trailer from Parks and Recreation

  When I was growing up in Huntsville in the late 70's-mid 80's Parks and Playgrounds would send out a games trailer to neighborhoods during the summer. They would park it at a dead end street or at a city park and staff it so kids could come and play games etc. They would have contests, you could win T-shirts etc. It was a community engagement thing. We didn't have a local park near my house so it was great for the kids. ...more »

  Lazy tube rides, sprinklers for kids to play in. Concession stands.

  Turn the creek that runs through downtown into a riverwalk

  One that would compete with San Antonio......and yes, it can be done. It would connect with Big Sprink Park obviously, and the VBC could build an addition alongside it. Restaurants and shops would line it, along with hotels. The entertainment district would be connected to it, along with the future downtown baseball stadium. It would act as the central corridor for pedestrians in the downtown. Imagine

  "Eating Alabama" movie

  There is a highly awarded independent film by a native Alabamian about growing food locally and how our food industry has changed through the years. I personally haven't seen the film, as it has been shown so far at select events but the film is due to be released on DVD May 1st. I think it might be a good film to show outside at Big Spring Park this summer. If that isn't an option maybe Greene Street Farmers Market ...more »

  HAVE FESTIVALS & EVENTS ON THE GREENWAYS

  I was walking down the Aldridge Creek Greenway today and was thinking how nice it would be to have some type of festival or community event along the greenway. Certain areas of the Green Way could be designated for this. There could be art festivals with booths lining the greenway on the sides. There could be community involvement events where local groups could set up booths to display what they have to offer people ...more »

Certain areas of the Green Way could be designated for this. There could be art festivals with booths lining the greenway on the sides. There could be community involvement events where local groups could set up booths to display what they have to offer people ie Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Churches, VFW, Boys & Girls Clubs, Botanical Garden, User groups etc. You could have 5K or short runs. Its practically unlimited what you could do on it. Maybe a Green Way Yard sale along it. I can see lots of different things going on there.
