HSV Historic Commission mtg 4.8.13

East Clinton School Broadway is already moving on this. He has already proposed tearing down half or almost all of the historic structure and just leaving the remaining facade and constructing 12 new homes behind it. This is worse than tearing the whole thing down in my opinion. (I really wish this was not proposed by one of our Historic Commission members). Leaving a ruinous wall and destroying the WHOLE of the structure ...more »

East Clinton Green Area with beautiful homes behind

I was encouraged at the Historical commission meeting tonight that so many people with "Save East Clinton" stickers on their shirts were not opposed to keeping part of the school and a green area at the front, and allowing lots for homes to be created behind the facade. Apparently the sentiment is not All or nothing amongst the neighbors. There is a good deal of mis-information about what kind of homes will be built ...more »

SAVE Madison Square Mall

Remember when Madison Square Mall was "the best" in North Alabama? It's time for some MAJOR attention to be put back into this mall. If you have positive deas for expansion/re-development of this mall please share on our facebook page SAVE Madison Square Mall! It would be nice to see something similar to the Parkway City Mall re-development or even Birmingham's Riverchase Galleria's current expansion/revamp project!! ...more »

Make 1 Gigabit-per-second Internet A Priority

Upgrading Huntsville's Internet infrastructure to provide 1 Gigabit/second Internet speeds to every business and residence should be a major priority. This would be a critical investment for a city that prides itself on technology, research and development, and innovation. Ultimately this should propel job growth and boost business investment over the long term. Let's promote HSV as a place that provides both space and ...more »

Widen the Parkway, ...today!

Widening the Huntsville Parkway Everyone is giving ideas for stores, museums and other businesses within Huntsville, but we continue to overlook what I believe is the most important step to improving Huntsville's economic prosperity; widening the Parkway between the overpasses. Widening the Parkway to 3 lanes north and south would guarantee traffic to already established storefronts and businesses, but alleviate ...more »

Huntsville Stars / Joe Davis Stadium

I'd love to see a nice face lift to Joe Davis stadium. Also local ownership would be awesome I think current owner/owners live in NewYork and care nothing about Huntsville. It would be great to see local crowds support our Minor league team like they did back in the 1990's. In the off season they could put on concerts like they use to when the Beach Boys and the group Alabama played at the stadium! Just don't want us ...more »

Sidewalks for California Street

Waterparks, renovation, condos and new venues are all great ideas. However sometimes you just need to cover the basics. Like repaving roads in 5pts that haven't been repaved in over 20 years, fixing street lights or... BUILDING FRICKIN' SIDEWALKS for neighborhoods that have major roads, like calfornia street. It amazes me that the Governors sidewalks and the Whitesburg sidewalks all dead end on California street. Residents ...more »

Use city land next to Ditto for Riverwalk area

Utilize the 120 acres plus the city has just west of Ditton on west side of river bridges for a Riverwalk type development area like they have in Branson Landing in Branson MO. They built up an area on the river and have a large shopping area with a Bass Pro Shops , Hotels, museums and lots of outdoor shopping alongside their river there. A Similar area closer is Augusta GA Riverwalk. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_zOhheIvaFOA/TJI0NsPUHYI/AAAAAAAAMyg/po8R87mcG1g/s1600/bransonlandin.jpg ...more »

Utilize Ditto Landing Area

There are a number of cities that have great parks, shopping and downtown areas right on a river such as Florence, Guntersville, Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville. Huntsville is doing it wrong! There is a thriving neighborhood right near Ditto, a green way that connects the Mt. Gap and Challenger areas to the Marina as well. An area similar to Bridgestreet or Providence with small shops and great restaurants needs ...more »
