Rethinking University (Hwy 72)

There are many great designs that could turn University from an ugly "STROAD" into an attractive walkable Boulevard, Trees, Bike lane and pedestrian walkways in a center strip and ample crosswalks could make University a place folks want to go again, and not just "get through" in the fastest possible manner. A "STROAD" is a confused mishmash of a Street and a Road, by being neither little is accomplished except increasing ...more »

Reasearch Parkway to 565 interchanges

In case it has gone unnoticed, the inter changes between Research Park Blvd and Highway 565 Near Bridge Street shopping center have become increasingly dangerous. The single lane exit ramp design for both the Madison and Huntsville exits has grown particularly scary with long traffic jams and Huntsville bound drivers swerving in last minute to avoid waiting for Madison bound traffic. This might be solved through creating ...more »

Van transport to bus lines

If developing countries can do it, why can’t we? When I served in a developing country in Africa and had no vehicle, I managed to quite efficiently and affordably get around major cities through a network of mini van transportation, which regularly served smaller communities for transport to larger hubs with bus lines. Some smaller cities were served this way by private contractors, who agreed to run any regular routes ...more »

A Public-Facing City Operations Dashboard

One way for the city to be more open in its operations would be to provide a public-facing dashboard. An example of such a dashboard can be seen by following the link below. The City of Brampton provides a constantly updated website with shows the metrics of the city operations. Not unlike the dashboard in the SIM City games, the dashboard can show finances and assets, various tax revenue, property improvements, energy ...more »

Childcare Centers Needed - Licensed

I would love to see childcare analysis rates conducted that includes Huntsville communities and subdivisions in need of childcare center near their neighborhoods. I-565

I am just asking. How will everyone feel if they increased the tax on gas to help pay for I-565 to be widened? I would agree if they can come to an agreement to extend it East, say between Ryland Pike and Dug Hill Rd and create an interchange to hook up to the future northern bypass. Going West to Hwy 31 or split it off and have it hook up to Alt 72 where 67 aka beltline is. It still amazes me that Huntsville is turning ...more »

Sustainable Huntsville

While Huntsville has a Sustainability plan of some sorts (most people don't know we have one), it does not capture the full range of topics that should be covered in a sustainability plan for an upcoming major city. HSV has an opportunity to be apart of real change that positively impacts our city. Cities like Atlanta, Nashville, Ashville, and Orlando all have master plans that involve urban planning, social equity, ...more »

Properly timed lights

Has Huntsville is growing and bringing in new businesses it is bringing in new housing, which means more traffic. I think it is time for Huntsville to considered breaking up with its love for red lights and manage traffic flow with timed lights instead of sensors on major thru ways. An example is if I leave downtown on Pratt and continue on University doing the speed limit I should be able to make each light green, ...more »
